The term morbidly obese seems to be thrown around more and more these days. It’s hard to believe that there are multiple levels of obesity but there are. The degree of obesity shows just how at risk a person may be of developing or even regretfully dying from weight related diseases.
So just what is the definition of morbidly obese.
Using BMI as a guideline there are various classes of obesity. Different organizations define obesity a bit differently. Generally a BMI greater than 40 or 45 is considered morbidly obese. There is even a class greater than that, greater than 50 is considered super obese by some health organizations.
No matter what level of obesity a person has reached it needs to be taken very seriously. We are dying here and it does not have to be that way.
