There are times when we cannot control ourselves from overeating especially when the holiday season comes around. Students tend to eat too much chocolates and cookies and other sugary snacks to keep themselves awake while studying. However, there are individuals who cannot control the habit of overeating also known as binge eating. What is it? What causes it? What are the effects of this disorder? What can lead to overcoming binge eating?
Binge eaters take in large amounts of food and feeling helpless to stop. They consume food even if they are not hungry and will continue their meal time even when their stomach is stuffed. After this episode, they often feel upset, depressed or guilty.

At home, parents forget that using food to condition the minds of their children for whatever reason may cause binge eating. Studies have shown that children receiving negative feedback about their physique and those that are sexually abused may suffer from binge eating.
Depressed people are prone to binge eating as linked by many researches. Others simply have problems controlling their impulse or temper. Those with low self-esteem because they dislike their bodies build are likely to be binge eaters.

First, binge eaters must learn how to manage stress. Find ways by which they can divert their attention from stressful situation. Meditation, physical exercise and relaxation techniques may be done instead of resorting to food for comfort. Second, binge eaters must condition their minds to take only 3 meals a day and nutritious snacks. They should discipline themselves to sticking to the scheduled meal time. Third, they should rest their bodies well. Eight hours of sleep will definitely do some wonders in overcoming binge eating. Fourth, they have to say goodbye to dieting in case they are into a special diet. This practice just deprives one of food and so they tend to crave more. Fifth, they should keep themselves busy. There are so many ways to avoid being bored. Boredom usually is an opportunity for one to think about food and devouring it. Lastly, they should ask some help from family, friends and even professionals who will remind binge eaters if things are getting out of control again.
