What Is Obesity

What is obesity? If you are like me you’re not a fan of the word obese. Obesity according to Webster’s is a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body. Generally a person is considered obese if they are more than 20 percent over standard weight, or alternatively have a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or more. Obesity has been linked to various health problems such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, sleep apnea and many others.

I recently read that there is some kind of correlation between obesity and socioeconomic status as well as productivity, I call BS on that one. I believe this is just another attempt to embarrass and ridicule the overweight. The same people showing these findings are the ones that picked on overweight people when they were kids. I am myself obese or as I prefer fat, and the majority of my family is overweight as are most Americans. I can say, and this is based solely on personal experience, and common sense, that fat does not mean lazy or poor. I have a strong work ethic and being fat has never got in the way of performing my duties. This is true of myself as well as the other obese members of my family.

I believe more people need to know what is obesity. For the sake of our own health and happiness, weight loss should be a priority. I however do not feel that those of us who are overweight, as I said the majority of Americans, should ever let anyone make us feel inferior. I personally don’t care what people think or say about me, but I do feel the need to stand up for fellow human beings, fatties like myself in particular.

On these pages will be information about obesity, what is obesity as well as articles about diet exercise and other treatment for obesity. The solution is not necessarily skinny (the world would be pretty dull and unattractive if everyone were skinny), the answer is healthy. If you are reading this looking for the answer to what is obesity, if you are looking for solutions to your weight problem please take a look around at the resources I have collected on what-is-obesity.net. Maybe we can all get a little healthier and in the process quiet the loud mouths out there.
